Day 6 evening, Thursday, October 19: Ayegui to Los Arcos, 20km, 8 hours
Awesome day.
Had breakfast with Adrienne and Marimar before heading out. More fresh zumo de naranja (OJ) and Adele was playing and I just started feeling emotional and shed a couple of tears. Then Alicia Keys came on and I felt like dancing so I did.
I looked to see if there were any 5Rhythm classes in Los Arcos, but no such luck so I figured I’d just have to dance along the Camino.
We walked and came across a blacksmith studio and stopped to talk to the blacksmith. He was very nice. I bought a small Camino shell made from metals including copper and bronze. In his studio was an altar of things left to him by pilgrims. I added a Hope doll I purchased the day before.
I continued and came across a winery with two taps outside it – one with water and the other with wine! Incredible! I had a teeny drop of wine, savouring it, and carried on.
I then met a woman named Anne, an ex-pat from Iowa who has been living in Madrid for 40 years. We discussed the current and historical political situation in Spain for some time. Then I discovered that she is a guide for Camino tours and was doing her own walk at the moment. We had a good chat from the perspective of event and group tour/retreat organizers.
As we were walking through the plains in the middle of nowhere, I hear music…Bob Marley… then see a food truck and then people dancing in the field! It’s Frank and Devi!!! Super exited I dance over and we have a dance party! It. Was. So. Much. Fun!!!
Then Kim Carnes’ Betty Davis Eyes starts playing and more dancing takes place. We had a drink (juice for me) and a snack and the owner, who has walked the Camino several times, tells us that tomorrow is the last of his season and that he is going to walk in Mexico for a few months.
How cool and surreal the entire experience was…I’ll try to send a video of the dance party.
Upon arriving in Los Arcos I went to the public albergue and got a massage from a man who does this daily for pilgrims. I got shoulders, back, full legs done and he would not accept more than 20€. Gratitude to him.
I need sleep so will end it at that save to say that Adrienne and I had a wonderful dinner on an Spanish cobbled street, beside a most beautiful church, surrounded by other pilgrims from around the globe.
Tomorrow we will take a bus to Burgos to skip ahead (due to our “limited” time), and will continue from there. Until tomorrow I bid you good night.
Buenas noches. Xo Tan
Ps You are loved. Pass it on.
